As Windows Insiders, we know that there is nothing more exciting than receiving a new mobile build to test out and waiting for Gabe to press that button sometimes can be a little... well, exhausting.

This is how to prepare your device for a new build:

Check if you are in the Fast/Slow ring

Most mobile builds are released into the Fast ring before they are released to the Slow ring. To get the builds first, you'll need to be in the Fast ring. To verify that you are in the fast ring, go to the Windows Insider app on your phone and re-enrol in the fast ring. This makes sure that you are definitely in the fast ring to get the new builds.

Charge your phone

As we all know, Windows 10 Mobile uses enough battery as it is without the relevant firmware fixes just yet. You'll need to charge your phone above 40% to install the updates, but we recommend that you fully charge your phone before installing the new build. Also, keep the phone on charge until you reach the Start screen.

After installation, reset your phone

Resetting your phone after a new build installation most of the time improves performance and stability both on the operating system and in some apps. To do this, go to Settings > System > About and tap Reset your device.
